What if this were the last day of your life?

Jesus Christ by LoveCats2006

What would you do?

Jesus gives us the new commandment.

There is law here (on steroids). There is gospel here.

It kills, and it raises (by the grace of God).

Fasten your seatbelts.

I know, this is a Maundy Thursday sermon. But I like it a lot and I listen to it throughout the year. And we’re not liturgical legalists here!

I’ll post it again on M. Thursday.

‘Turning the Table on Religion’

82/365 by Morganshev

Last night’s Ash Wednesday sermon by Pastor Mark Anderson.

“Christ is the end of the law for all those who have faith.”  -St. Paul

Think about that as you listen.

“Well, what about what I ‘do’?”  “Your sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake. That’s what about it.”

The Beatitudes – a Lenten sermon

Well, it’s Lent. Today is Ash Wednesday which marks our 40 day Lenten season and journey towards the cross.

What are we to make of ‘The Beatitudes’?

9 things to give up at Lent

“May God grant us the wisdom to know ourselves; the courage to admit our sins; and the grace to receive God’s never failing mercy and forgiveness.”

1) COMPLAINING  –  there is much to be thankful for.

2) WORRY – there are things to be concerned about, but nothing to worry about.

3) DISCOURAGEMENT – God is for you, not against you.

4) BITTERNESS – it’s like poisoning yourself. How smart is that?

5) HATRED – forgive and watch your future come alive!

6) GOSSIPING – speak well of your neighbor, you might just see him/her return the favor.

7) BLAMING – be part of the solution, not the problem.

8) STAYING AWAY FROM CHURCH – provide your family with a firm foundation of faith, learn about the message of God’s love from the Bible and share problems, make friends, and be renewed in hope and thank God for another week of life. And it’s free!

…and the final thing to ‘Give Up’ during Lent?

9) GIVING UP – hang in there!! Even with all it’s problems, life is a good and gracious gift!

And ‘faith’, ‘free-will’, ‘baptism’, ‘freedom’ and other good stuff.

What did Luther’s father say to him that sent him into a tailspin for a year!?

Mission, Universalism, Salvation

Pastor Mark talks about the two main thrusts of Christian Mission and their implications. He then talks about Salvation as not just a future hope but a present reality.

Universalism is on the front burner nowadays thanks to Rob Bell, and Pastor Mark touches on this, as well, towards the end of the class.

Loosing the Shackles…

Note:

It was just made aware to me that some of you might want more audio that is complete in just one track. For uploading into ipods or what not. I’ll work on making that happen.

Shackles, Salem, Massachusetts by David A's Photos  Jump for joy! by susan.williams61

This one will really tick some off.  Some really like the way shackles feel. They are used to them.

Yet others will be thrilled to be rid of those chaffing, restricting, cutting pieces of metal, in favor of the true freedom that we were meant to have.

If you hated this…oh well.

If you enjoyed it, pass it along.

Thanks!

Bible study

Bible teach bk. by otto be in pictures

Here’s section one of this study on how to read the Bible with understanding and other relevant themes. I’ll put up more of it fairly soon. This Bible study audio has a total of 23 tracks.

The sound quality is not great because we blah blah blah, yada yada yada… (who cares why?) … but it is good enough.

Total running time for these 9 tracks is around 30 minutes.
