“In the begining was the Bible, and the Bible was with God, and the Bible was God.”
Is the Bible the Word of God? Is that all that the Word of God is…the Bible?
Or, is the Bible just one of the forms of the Word of God?

Just one of many …………There is an old Hindu saying that sums it up best.
“Truth is one, the sages speak of it by many names”
Hello John,
I’m not sure if it is “one of many”, but it certainly is one of several.
Thanks John!

Do you think that maybe everything or belief system eventually just goes through Jesus? Seems pretty self explanatory to me.
John 14:6
John,
I think everyone eventually goes through Jesus. He will be our Judge. That certainnly is good news for those that trust in Him. That the One who died for them will be judging them.
What about those that haven’t known or trusted in Jesus?
Will He be merciful to them? I hope He is. For I claim nothing of my own either, and am hoping that He will also be merciful to me, a sinner.
You are so right, John, Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the Be all and End all.
In my best moments I am very thankful for that.

You know its funny, when I hear people say they are a sinner, it just seems so wrong. Now dont get me wrong, we as humans sure can do some crappy things. But you know what, maybe thats what was intended to help bring us into community. Without the bad you and I would never know the Good. I dont need to question whether my God will have mercy on me. It is mercy, and Love and smiling even when I mess up.
John,
I hope that I am a sinner!
Those are the ones that He came to save!
You are so right again, John, He is merciful, and loving when we mess up. (the smiling part I’m not so sure of…)
Steve,
The word of God is a little more dynamic than “The Bible” or a little more dynamic than what most Bible Thumpers believe about the Bible. But I think you search in vain for the word of God outside the Bible.
Then again I’m still not sure that James is the word of God in any sense. I certainly will not put it on par with Romans. I would like to replace it with Article 4 of the A.C. In anycase for reasons like that I hate to make a one t0 one correlation between the Bible and the word of God. Somewhere in the bronze age of Missouri this became the status quo, but I think our earlier fathers had it right. J.T. Mueller went a little south there. I rmember reading and comparing his translation to the original by Walther (I believe it was “the True Visible Church). Walther wrote Das wort Gottes ist Das Wort Gottes. Mueller translated it “The bible is the word of God.” Being a translator myself I understand having license in a translation, but I think Missouri lost something of its understanding of the word that day.
The Bible holds the Word of God, which is alive, giving us hope, love and the truth. The truth that we are saved from eternal death by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches us about these truths and God’s gifts to us. God’s Word and the Holy Spirit bring faith into our hearts (life). †
“For it is my grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Personally, I believe that while the Bible may contain the inspired words (plural) of God, it is not “the Word” (singular). Jesus is the Word.
Consider John 1:14…
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we have contemplated his glory, a glory as of an only-begotten with a father), full of grace and truth;… (Darby Translation)
…and Revelation 19:11-13
And I saw the heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and one sitting on it, [called] Faithful and True, and he judges and makes war in righteousness.
And his eyes are a flame of fire, and upon his head many diadems, having a name written which no one knows but himself;
and [he is] clothed with a garment dipped in blood; and his name is called The Word of God. (Darby Translation)
A book cannot become flesh, nor can it dwell among “us”. It also can’t ride a horse, judge, make war, or wear clothing.
Shelly,
Great comments! I couldn’t agree with you more!
Thanks very much.
