This Saturday night come to seminar X to find out exactly the will of God for your life

Hey, that’s great!  Where do I sign up!?

Every Christian worth his or her salt wants to know the will of God for their life, right?

unmatched!Of course you do! You are a Christian! You are all about doing the right thing!

OK. We’re going to let the cat out of the bag ahead of time. You won’t have to sign up for seminar X and pay $75 to Pastor Gnosticfeld and buy his latest book, “Green Socks, Red Socks…know for sure which ones God wants you to wear today.”

Here is the super-special, hard to find out secret that all Christians everywhere are yearning for…

towards the end of Matthew 22, our Lord Jesus says it Himself when asked what is it that we need to do to fulfill all righteousness, ” Love God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. And, love your neighbor as yourself.”

Also in John 6 verse 28,  the people asked Jesus, “What must we do to be doing the works of God?”  Jesus replied, “Believe in the one whom He has sent.”

There it is.   You want to know God’s will for your life?  “Love God and your neighbor as yourself.”   You want to do God’s will?  “Believe in the one whom He has sent.”

“Yeah…that’s great…but what color socks should I put on today…?”   Holy mackerel!!!

  1. Short and sweet!

  2. Thanks Hannah!

  3. You got it, Steve. That says it all.

  4. Ivy,

    Thanks Ivy.

Wes still pray about things. But then we step out in faith and trust that God will be with us and work through us no matter what we do…right or wrong.

And through it all, He loves us and forgives us.

  5. But I don’t have red or green socks! I’m so confused.

    Hey Steve,
Thanks again for getting me out of the jam last night.
It’s good to have good friends, and it was wonderful meeting Pat. It was kind of fun talking to your neighbores too, though I probably scared them off of Lutheranism.
    your brother in Christ,
    Bror

  6. Bror,

You know what that means don’t you (that you don’t even have red or green socks) ?

Maybe you need to pray a bit more…and more earnestly.

I didn’t get my first pair of red socks until I had fasted 24 hours. That was the last time I did it.

Yeah, it was fun seeing you and spending a bit of time together. We’ll do it again!

Don’t worry about the neighbors being turned off to Lutheranism. I did that a long time ago. You just sealed the deal. Just kidding. You never know what the Spirit will do in thess folks when the gospel is proclaimed in all it’s purity and freedom.

Take care, Bror, and have a great time with your wife and your son.

  7. Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are IN HEAVEN, and which are ON EARTH; [even] in him: Ephesians 1:9-10

You are correct that we are to love one another. That love is shown when we fulfill His will which is to bring people to Christ by way of fulfilling the Great Commission.

    The Lord’s Prayer says…
    Our Father in heaven,
    hallowed be Thy name
    Thy kingdom come
    THY WILL BE DONE
ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN…

His will is to bring the redeemed of the Lord together on earth as it is in heaven.

may God’s blessings be upon you

  8. Brian,

Thanks for sharing that Christ will gather all things on earth unto Himself.

That He will. And we are to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, and baptise and teach in the name of the triune God.

I guess that when we believe, we will do that, to a greate or lesser degree.

  9. Yes, but the question is, do you “Love God and your neighbor as yourself.”??? Has anyone kept this law who is reading this blog? The law of God is his will for you indeed, but you have failed to keep it. for “through the law comes knowlede of sin.” (Rom 3:20)

  10. John W,

” Has anyone kept this law who is reading this blog?”

From a few of the comments (not on this post), I think we do have a few that are doing a pretty good job at keeping the law…just ask them.

You are so right, John, no one can keep the law.

This post was directed towards those that believe there is some special knowledge, or a system to know God’s will for their lives. ‘ Should I move to Cleveland?’ Do I go out with Susan, or Betty?’ What is God’s will?

Anyway, I was trying to say (probably not in the best way) that we are free. We don’t know and will not know exactly what it is we are supossed to do in every situation, but we are free in Christ to step out in faith, using all the gifts of discernment that God has given us. And when we fail…we are forgiven. God can use us just as much in Cleveland as He can in Los Angeles.

Live! Quit worrying about whether God wants you (not you, John) to be wearing black, or blue socks!
