Psalm 51

10, 11, 12

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.

I often find that I am unwilling.  Unable.

But my Lord is always willing to save me, yet once again, and bring me home.

And again, I stray.  And I continue to pray David’s prayer.

  1. What is this “willing” spirit in Hebrew, I wonder.

Luther has: “Und gib mir einen neuen, gewissen Geist.”
“And give me a new, sure spirit.”

  2. Not sure, Brigitte.

But I do know that it is the Spirit of God, who’s the only party willing to make us what we need to be.

  3. Sorry. Messed up. In German the verses are numbered differently. In that verse the spirit is “freudig”, which would be joyful, which is willing, but stronger.

  4. Danke vielmals, Brigitte!
