This Sunday’s Proclaimed Word at LCM

Our ways and the Lord’s ways are not the same (thanks be to God!).

Listen in a bit as Pastor Mark expounds on this reality.

Sermon-Sunday-June-14th-2009

Once again we get a glimpse into how God operates in this world.

He looks for the best candidate, the perfect candidate, the inerrant tool to get His will accomplished..right?

Wrong.

He specializes in attaching His perfect Word to far less than perfect implements.

All of you “perfect” pastors out there know exactly what I mean.

  1. A kindred spirt friend of mine moved his BLOG here—> http://leadingchurch.com/wordpress/.

He and I share a kindred spirit for Jesus, Martin Luther, and Tim Keller.

I have always like the saying, “God never calls the equiped, He equips those He calls”

    Or something like that….. 🙂

  4. I like that, Wayne!

  5. In this way God shows HIS strength. We normally think of “strength showing” and “power display” something like Arnold S. in his weight lifting hey day as Conan the Barbarian swing around this huge 80 pound broad sword. Huge muscles flexing draped in armor and this huge crushing weapon. Counter pose that with Samson and the “jaw bone of an ass”. Reason answers: “Jaw bone of a donkey, what kind of strong powerful weapon is that?” Point being this: God can and often does show his strength in that which is and indeed is very opposite to what reason expects, yes worse in utter offense to reason, thus are all the articles of faith. For they are articles of faith not derivatives of reason. The jaw bone of an ass/donkey is not particularly or at all a powerful weapon. Yet God could show forth HIS strength and power in the offenses to fallen human reason. Like having an 95 pound weakling beat to death a muscular broad sword swinging barbarian, with a banana peel.

Thus, at the Cross God is hidden yet revealed as God. Hidden under utter weakness is the power of God. Thus it is as Luther lauds Isa. 45, “Truly O’Lord you are a God Who hides Himself, O’ salvation of Israel.”

  6. Right on, Larry!

God delights (I believe) in doing the opposite of what we would do.
